High-impact low-cost projects are the Mountain Trust’s signature. The Mountain Trust has pioneered Radio Guru - a radio education programme broadcast every week to hundreds of thousands of school-age students in Western Nepal. Studies indicate great success. Student sponsorship and teaching volunteers are also key to our education and school support strategy.
Education is a vital prerequisite for development and escaping the poverty trap. Many children in Nepal are unable to achieve their full educational potential because of their family circumstances or the lack of adequate school facilities. The Mountain Trust has developed a raft of programmes designed to overcome the specific problems faced by children in Nepal, especially in remote and low-income rural areas.
Sponsorships allow children to attend school with their own books, stationery and uniform. It also enables the families of these children to support their child's education without worrying about the cost to the family. The small amounts donated by generous individuals has been instrumental in keeping children in education and helping them and their families to flourish.
School Support provides classroom resources for the benefit of all students in a school. School meals during lunchtime are proven to improve the academic achievement of students as well as their overall health and wellbeing. Other support includes distribution of learning resources and sports equipment in under-resourced schools at minimal expense.

Radio education has been shown to improve the grades of those at school but, equally importantly, it gives those out of school a chance to participate and learn. Our radio broadcasts have been very important for the students of a number of blind schools. The Mountain Trust now supports these schools directly as well as through radio education.
Teaching volunteers are key to our education and school support strategies. Volunteer teachers make a valuable contribution to the engagement of children in their schooling as well as their perception of the value of school. The Mountain Trust believes in a holistic education strategy. You can be part of our work in Nepal.
