Health Camps

In collaboration with local hospitals, district health offices and local Village Development Committees, The Mountain Trust provides regular free Health Camps in rural villages in the West of Nepal. Medical volunteers travel in the Land Rover Ambulance to diagnose patients and treat them for problems ranging from psoriasis to brain tumors.

Blood pressure checks are part of the pre-screening for healthcamp participants

Mountain Trust sponsored Health Camps have treated nearly 3,000 people in over a dozen locations throughout Western Nepal for conditions ranging from skin complaints to brain tumours.

Health Camp

In the remotest parts of Nepal, it can be a three or even a five day walk to the nearest basic medical station and too often the only way to get there is to be carried by others. Hospital treatment and primary healthcare is not free in Nepal, it is beyond the means of many families. Because it is so comparatively expensive for those in poorer rural areas patients tend to present very late. When they do arrive at a hospital or health post, all too often, their symptoms are very far advanced and severe. This is what prompted the Mountain Trust to organise Health Camps, the Land Rover Ambulance and medical volunteers from the UK.

Health Camp

Since shipping our Land Rover Ambulance to Nepal, we have provided free treatment to approaching 3,000 people otherwise unable to afford access to medical care. We have agreements with several hospitals, government healthposts, and pharmacists to provide medical volunteers and free medicines for health camps.

Health Camp

The Mountain Trust regularly recruits medical students and practitioners to Intern and Volunteer in Nepal shadowing in a variety of specialisms at hospitals and super-specialisms, taking part in medical research, teaching basic health & hygeine in schools & rural communities, and working on health camps.
